1. Introduction
OnionStacks (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal information is processed in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) of South Africa.
2. Information we collect
To provide you with connectivity and related services through the OnionStacks marketplace we collect and process personal information including, but not limited to:
- Full names and South African ID or passport number (for RICA compliance where applicable);
- Contact details (email address and phone number);
- Physical installation address and pinned map location;
- Billing information processed through our payment provider Ozow;
- Order, coverage and service data required to provision and support your Fibre, LTE, 5G, VoIP or Hosting service;
- For Sales Agent applicants: banking details and KYC documents uploaded to our secure storage for verification and payouts.
3. Purpose of processing
Your data is processed for the following purposes:
- Creating and maintaining your OnionStacks account;
- Establishing, activating and supporting your internet, VoIP or hosting service;
- Compliance with the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-Related Information Act (RICA) and other applicable South African law;
- Billing, invoicing, accounting and debt collection;
- Coverage checks and address verification;
- Communication about service outages, maintenance and account updates;
- Fraud prevention and protection of the OnionStacks platform.
4. Sharing of your personal information
By agreeing to this policy you provide your express consent for OnionStacks to share your personal information under the following limited circumstances:
4.1 Upstream network and service providers
We share your information with upstream network providers, fibre network operators (such as Vumatel, Frogfoot, Openserve, Octotel, Metrofibre, Herotel and others), mobile operators (such as MTN, Vodacom, Telkom and Rain), VoIP carriers and hosting suppliers solely to facilitate the installation, activation, RICA registration and technical support of the service you ordered.
4.2 Payment and identity partners
We share the minimum information required to process payments with our payment provider Ozow, and with identity verification providers where KYC checks are required (for example, the Sales Agent program).
4.3 Google Maps
Coverage searches and location pinning are performed using the Google Maps Platform, subject to Google’s privacy terms.
4.4 No third-party marketing sale
OnionStacks strictly prohibits the sale or sharing of your personal information with unrelated third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Security measures
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures — including encryption in transit, role-based access control, row-level security on our database, and audit logging — to secure the integrity and confidentiality of your personal information and to protect it against unauthorised access, loss or destruction.
6. Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active and for the period required by South African law after your account is closed (for example, RICA and financial record retention obligations).
7. Your rights
As a data subject, you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you;
- Request the correction or deletion of your personal information;
- Object to the processing of your information (which may result in the termination of the service);
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
8. Electronic acceptance and consent
By creating an account or placing an order on OnionStacks you acknowledge that:
- You have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
- You voluntarily consent to OnionStacks processing your personal information as described.
- You specifically consent to the sharing of your data with upstream providers, payment partners and identity partners as necessary for service delivery.
- You understand that this electronic consent carries the same legal weight as a physical signature.
